About Ethos

I've been writing these issues of Ethos for a number of years and have thoroughly enjoyed writing each one. For your convenience, we've archived these issues into four distinct categories: Ethos for Everyone, Ethos for Men, Ethos for Women, and Ethos for Youth. Each of these categories are rather self-explanatory, but let me take just a couple of moments and say a few words about each one.

First, is Ethos for Everyone. There are a number of ethical subjects that affect all of us to one degree or another. The various articles are written with this in mind. Admittedly, they are written more for adults than for young adults, but I also believe that young adults, especially today, will benefit from acquainting themselves with the material here.

Second, is the category of Ethos for Men. This is one of my favorite topics for several reasons. I'm convinced from Scripture that men are called to be the spiritual leaders at home and in the Church of Jesus Christ. For that reason, I have spent a great deal of time and effort in writing material that will enable men more fully to fulfill their calling. Quite a few of the articles found here deal with the issue of male leadership.

Third, is Ethos for Women. I am blessed to be married to an awesome, godly woman. As I write this (2006) we've been married for more than thirty-eight years and have known each other for forty-eight years. We met when her dad was my Little League baseball coach. I also have the distinct privilege of knowing some very godly women both in our local congregation at Grace Presbyterian Church and in other congregations. This section is dedicated to these gifted women, whom I both admire and rejoice in. Thank you for all you are and all you do.

Finally, there is Ethos for Youth. As the father of six and the grandfather of eleven-at present count-I dearly love to be around young people. There is something thoroughly refreshing about youth. They are exuberant and full of questions. What I'm aiming at in this section is to teach young people how to think biblically and how to build a Christian life and worldview. I learned a long time ago that a truly Christian life and worldview contains at least three essential components: a view of God, man, and society. In these articles I point you to how to begin to build that worldview in your life now. When I attended The Citadel (1963-1967), we saw the words from Ecclesiastes 12:1 emblazoned on the front of Summerall Chapel: "Remember also your Creator in the days of your youth." This is my aim here for young Christians.
